Could ketone esters help runners maintain mental alertness during an ultramarathon?
In this randomized controlled study, participants who ingested an exogenous ketone ester during an ultramarathon maintained cognitive performance and had increased dopamine levels, compared to those who took a placebo, but not all of the participants completed the entire 100-kilometer race.
